Projects should include strategies/activities to promote safe and effective weight reduction or prevent overweight in children and may include (but are not limited to) targeted programs to increase physical activity and/or applied educational activities and/or to improve diet/ nutritional quality and eating habits by increasing cons
Funds are available to qualifying schools, organizations and programs that have initiated or wish to initiate health promoting programs aimed at combating childhood obesity in the Knox County region. Walking/exercise programs, education programs with an interactive and applied approach to healthy eating and increased activity, cooking and gardening programs with an educational component and other strategies and activities to promote safe and effective weight loss or prevent overweight in children are encouraged.
Preference will be given to underserved populations including Food Stamp eligible participants. Organizations/programs that provide documentation of support, reference and/or affiliation with a sponsoring organization or institution approved by JLK will also have preferred ranking. Innovative ideas, emphasis on nutrition and collaborative programs in Knox County are considered strong assets.
Funds may be used to improve the quality, reproduction and sustainability of the above projects/programs and to buy incentives/materials or to organize events that support the goals or message of the program. Use of funds for personnel and salaries is prohibited. Documentation of the project goals and planned measures to determine the success of the program will strengthen the competitive opportunity to receive funding.
