The 2007-08 year has gotten off to a wonderful start for the Done in a Day Committee “DIAD.” We have already participated in projects involving two agencies so far this summer. First, committee member, Kathleen Callen, coordinated with the Mission of Hope to provide volunteers from DIAD for the 2007 Back to School Campaign. We spent two evenings in July at the Mission of Hope Warehouse packing backpacks with school supplies that went to over 9,000 Appalachian children. Second, on Saturday, August 3rd,our committee assisted with the AAU Junior Olympics. Committee member, Jenny Mendonca, worked in conjunction with the Knoxville Tourism Board to organize our DIAD members to host the hospitality room; check in coaches, team members and officials; and measure distances for field events.
Done in a Day has already planned to assist several other community agencies by providing volunteers to help with hands-on, one day projects that are both diverse and rewarding. Whether it is providing a Christmas party for special needs children, planting a garden for an inner city, after-school program or planning a special party for at-risk teenagers, the DIAD committee is committed to making a difference in Knoxville in a day!
We are still looking to add a few new projects, so if you know of an agency that would benefit from JLK’s volunteer assistance for a day-long community project, please encourage that agency to complete the Done in a Day Community Agency Proposal form. As the year progresses, we will keep you informed of upcoming projects, and we welcome all members participation!
